A person/artist wears a specially designed costume and turns into a live cartoon character mascot for entertaining guests at birthday parties, school functions, corporate events, brand promotion, wedding, reception, social gathering, etc. The mascot costumes can be of various types depending upon the materials used for manufacturing them.
The costume consists usually of 2 parts: head & body suit. The body suit is generally made from cloth or fur fabric. The material used to make the head of the costume decides the type of the mascot and its price. According to the material of the head, mascots can be mainly classified as follows:-
Cloth
In this type of mascot, the head is made up of cloth material. The accuracy of the face shape & looks is poor in cloth mascot.
EVA
The head of this type of mascot is made up of EVA material. EVA is a rubber-like flexible material yet it is stiff enough to maintain shape. The accuracy of the shape & looks is good in EVA mascot. They are light in weight and the artists can wear them & perform for a longer period of time at events.
Fiber
In this type of mascot, the head is made up of fiber material. Fiber can be moulded perfectly to achieve very high accuracy of the face shape & looks. Fiber head mascots are heavy and difficult to wear for long duration.
Inflatable
Inflatable mascots are generally a one piece suit. They are made up of nylon or umbrella material. Pocket size battery operated fans are used to inflate these types of mascot costumes to give them proper shape. They are very light in weight.
