Cognitive skills of Preschoolers (3 to 5 year kids)

Kids of age 3 to 5 years are referred to as Preschoolers. Cognitive skills are the core skills that the brain uses to think, read, learn, remember, reason, and pay attention. Preschool kids develop the following cognitive skills:-

  • Draws a 2-part person 
  • Draws a 3-part person
  • Copies triangle 
  • Copies simple shapes. Prints some letters and numbers.
  • Understands the concepts of “same” and “different.”
  • Follows instructions with two or three steps.
  • Understands the concept of counting and may know numbers.
  • Draws a person with two to four body parts.
  • Begins to understand time.
  • Knows basic colors.
  • Uses scissors.
  • Copies letters.
  • Plays board games or card games.
  • Tells you what will happen next in a story.
  • Counts 10 or more objects.
  • Names at least four colors correctly.
  • Understands items used every day such as food or money.
  • Recognizes own printed name and may be able to write name.
